Winnipeg
is the capital and most populated Canadian city in the province of Manitoba. Winnipeg is the seventh largest
municipality in Canada with a population of approximately 630,000. Winnipeg got its name from the Cree word
"muddy waters".
Winnipeg was a trading centre for Aboriginal peoples before the Europeans arrived and began
to settle. The first fort was built in 1738 by French Traders. A settlement was later founded by the Selkirk settlers
in 1812. By 1873 the City of Winnipeg was incorporated
